This and that
- Thank you all for the Pongal wishes. I took off for three days and unwound myself during the Pongal holidays which happily happened to coincide with the long weekend here in the US. Hope you all had an enjoyable festival time too wherever you happened to celebrate it.
- Thank you all for voting for Indibloggers in the Indibloggies poll. Although we did not win, it was good to know that many of you backed me for the "Best Directory Award" (I am at a loss to understand why they included DesiPundit in what was originally only a directory category. Was it to see that it should somehow get an award knowing that it was competing against heavy-weights in the other category - group blogs? Should not have ThamizhmaNam and Indibloggers alone which are true directory services been allowed to compete for this year (considering that Anita Bora's directory won the award for that category in the year before last)? I guess somehow they wanted to expand the scope in that category to force-fit DP into it to make it win. Well, I have no regrets as I have since moved on from Indibloggers and all I wanted by way of the award was for some recognition for the efforts that Anand had put in but it was not meant to be, I guess. Anyway, good luck to all the winners although I do have an opinion regarding some skews that I can see in the results. It looks like a whole bunch of people with richer blogging experience and duration have been left out and it is not too difficult to see why, given the general slant of the Indiblogosphere these days).
- The Bangalore vs. Chennai debate is on autopilot on my blog now :-). What I mean by that is that on that post, discussions/arguments/counter-arguments are still going on without further input on my part and I am not sure when it will end but it does make for interesting reading. Looks like I did touch a raw nerve for some people there :-). If you want, you can follow the thread here.
- I wanted to say something in this space to a certain someone but since he may be checking periodically for my reaction to his post, I am probably going to disappoint him :-).
- Hari's thamizh humor post is hilarious and while there are a few common ones with those of an earlier post by Narayananji, I found a couple of them worthy of mention:
Policesukkum Porukkikkum enna vidhyaasam?
Adi-Thadi senjaa porukki...Thadi-Adi senjaa police
and
Shampoovukkum Paambukkum enna vidhyaasam?
Shampoo pottaa thalaiyil nurai varum... Paambu pottaa vaayil nurai varum...
Note: On the subject of Indibloggers, Anand requested that he be relieved of the duties of adding entries and maintaining the directory since he had become busier and so Indibloggers is right now without an active volunteer to maintain it. Anybody interested in taking over the job can send me an email and I will give you access to it. The satisfaction you get out of it may not be due to possibilities of awards (which have a habit of pulling nasty surprises on you :-)) but from the genuine words of appreciation from those who are delighted to find a place in it. So, whoever is interested in taking over the mantle from me, you are most welcome :-). And before I sign off on this post, my father's birthday was on the 16th and so by this post coming in fairly late, I guess I could not help those who would have liked to wish him in advance or even on the 16th itself on his blog or here. My apologies for that.
